How would i create VB Messenger

ok, i'm a complete noob just about learnt the basics in VB. I would like some pointers on how to make a internet messenger/chat program of my own any help would be aprreciated.

Win_Dir and others are working on an open source project along these lines, PM him for more info.

btw, I have used Winsock in the past to make a chat program over LAN.
