Just thought  I would find out how many of us came here.

Im my case I had been stuck in VB6 with how to make a particular MDI chile window dock to one side if the user wanted or to move around freely. After cracking my head (and corrective surgery) and searching many different sites, I searched google for a place I could ask my questions. There was one site I used to see in my MSDN magazines but it was very difficult to use, which is why I went to google.

I found one listing that said "The perfect solution." I went there and found it to be a Casino site (don't ask me how it was listed under Visual Basic) hit back and then found this site. I joined that day asked my question in 2 different sections and got helped by JLRodgers. I have since made this site my home page.

I think I was googling for resolution of my problem (dont remember what was the problem), so I found answer at andreavb. Then after a few days, I decided to ask a question, and see if I will get a reply, which I did. Next year I spend in army, where I was working on a computer (Word, Excell mostly) and I had plenty of free time, so I made a huge progress in VB. When I returned, I decided to help people on this forum if I knew the answer, and, as you see, I still do it.

I had been programming in vb6 for about 2 years when I first joined AndreaVB. I was a bit bored in work one day and came across the site by chance. I started reading some of the questions and I thought , I know the answer to this one, and a couple more.

I had programmed in Fortran and C++ for many years and found vb much better and wanted to learn more about it. So i made an effort to try to find the answers to questions that I did not know and its amazing how much more you learn. Not only from finding solutions but also about reading the answers for questions that I did not have clue about and would never thought of doing

Since then I have put more of my knowledge which I have picked up from here and nowhere else it the applications I write. Must say they are much better now and a lot of it is from what I have learnt at this site.

I was browsing on the net to see any interesting stuff on VB, and I stumble on this site.

When I started looking at the forum I kept going "Hey, I know that". So I place it in my favorite and just came back on regular basis helping everytime I can. Knowing I'll get help when I'll need it!.

I was looking for some sites to deepen my VB skill, so I put "Visual Basic" into Yahoo. I found plenty of sites, and I visited all(!!), and signed up to some. It took a couple of months.

I found some attractive sites, I remember one that welcomes visitors with a wonderful Sikorsky sentence, so I posted my question. After some days I got no answer yet. I did the same in some other sites. When I finally got some answers, they were silly, superficial, and did not solve my problem.
After a period I found out by myself that my initial question was very trivial, so I started thinking that if a site/forum doesn't help visitors to solve their even simple problems, so it doesn't matter how beautiful home page it has, or how great the words are spent in it.

In the same period I reached this site on my list. I was impressed by the speed of the answer the members gave, even to the silliest questions. Yes of course, JLRodgers impressed me with his knowledge and accuracy on the answer. I like him: he speaks few but every word makes sense, and even if he's the largely top writer here, I never took him in a mistake. I thought then, and I still do, that I found a really useful site.

I'm still signed up on some other sites, but I just limit to read their forums. This is the only one I keep on writing in. Some have more and more advanced contents than here, but when I sometimes post a question there I don't really expect an ultimate-and-solving answer, and in most cases I get no answer at all. I learnt that if I don't get reply here, I better write down my problem description into a search engine, and I find many pages with useful hints and tips.
I think the same about the VB newsgroups, even I must admit that the english ones are better than the italian one. There people answer you three words, the most used word is RFTM, they answer quickly and consider their reply enough to you to get all the VB wisdom, and don't care if their answer is correct or not, if it actually works or not, if they have correctly understood your question or not. So when you post back again, and apologize for taking their precious time again, they pose like "I already told you how" and get annoyed. And more, most threads answers are about not VB related controversies, like "...you didn't quote it..." or "...I told you not use capitals, you stupid..." Andrea has the great merit to save us from all this trash.

It's not (yet) my start page but is my most visited page, is the first page I always open, and is the only page that justify my ADSL connection.

I was an out and out Java programmer until .. i came across .NET. I felt Microsoft had finally come up with something powerful that i could not ignore. I took to c# like a fish to water. In the meantime i had become Friends with Fabulous(VB_Guru) .. we had our wars on Java vs VB .. I saw him writing an article for this forum and i became interested in contributing.

I also felt it would be a good place to learn new stuff. And here we are a few months later.

i needed to check out a certain piece of code.. so i looked for vb forums.. then i came across this andreavb.com forum..

it wasn't so superb at the time.. i mean, compared to now...

we didn't have moderators yet.. and then i found myself with a lot of time, so i stayed and tried to help others, even though i didn't get what i actually needed in this forum.

it's a happy place.. i don't recall many irritating posters.

for me, though i've been away for like an entire year, i really love this forum.. i'm to stay for good...

Been busy trying to take a second degree <--it's not working out...

I think I was working on a WinSock project at the time...then I met win_dir (the Duck man...hey how are sales btw?) and he got me set up on my first web server. I then started working in a lot of web stuff. I grew attached to the site though and met others (like steve) who were real nice and helpful too...I guess thats what I like about the site - like others have said there's no attitudes just folks helping folks...

since then I have drifted from VB quite a bit but I am happy to see the site has been migrating towards .NET nicely...

i've been looking for help for my really rather basic problems but either they're so simple peeps dont want to waste the time or they require too much time to explain them to me, so i'm still wandering, lost and clueless and trying to patch together the solution to my Q.... i dont hold much hope anymore

I was trying to find an answer to "how do you get a program's icon to show up in the taskbar without a border", and I couldn't find an answer on a site I usually look at for VB code examples (http://www.planet-source-code.com/), so I searched on google, specifically at first, then vaguely.

I ended up finding this site, asking (without a working answer, but I poorly phrased the question), then returning recently to ask a new question, of which, I found the answer myself.

I stick around (not posting, but looking) because it's a nice place.  And, if I can, I'll try to help out.

I was working on a project for my brother. I was stuck on a problem for a long time.... I tried search engones and all.. But nothing was useful... Anyways I then got here and signed in.. I put up my problem here, and YO! I got the solution from Goran (THANX GORAN!!!)...

Google'd for a problem.. found this site... never left. I mean, it's hard to contribute as my (rubbish) job is getting busier every day, but I read everyone's responses that I can and learn more each time I visit.

I'm a relative newbie here.
I was hunting and scratching for a solution when I came across AndreaVB on gooodoldgooogle,  had a look around and liked what I saw and decided to post my question. I was quickly given an answer (by Imordium - is that how you spell it) - and have hung around ever since.
I'm no guru and I'm retired to France now and only develop my own stuff for pleasure !? (sad aint I) but I surprise myself how much I've picked up over the years working for an idiot company called freecom.net (I was their original employee). We never had forums in the early days so we got used to searching for an answer ourselves and using a bit of grey matter to resolve things. But it's nice to be able to help out others, particularly those who try a little themselves first before asking. And it's great to know there are you great gurus out there to help us medicore types.

i was having my OJT in an airline company for my graduation in colege.they agave me this workstation and lots of programs to make.i met a few snags so i search nline for some answers.found this forum,saw the posts,signed up and never regretted the action.i mean,some forum have members who get really short with us newbies and geeks-to-be.but here,it's like having your own family,where the members look after each other,and there are often
answers to every question you post.
anyway,i hang around the forum usually while the others are asleep
anyway,i think goran was the first to help me out.then yronium abd JLrogers ..and admin has always been great,even making use of the suggestion i made..i mean,not every webmaster is humble enough to try something sugested by a newbie forum member right?thanks guys,i might be on my way to my vb expertise...hehehe!anyway,i might be gone for some time,but i'll be back!

i remember i was googleing for solution of my vb , mysql related problem where i was also willing somebody or anybody give me any suggestion urgent.....

then suddently found a name and joined with vb (AndreaVB) which also have forum and everybody is quickly replying for (dates) each question that was asked.

when i click it i saw huge vb collection, i loved vb from my bottom of heart , and when i saw something with maximum vb only , i was telling my self great site atleast, i can forget everything but not AndreaVB.com

mmm... Well, I remember that I've been doing a vb project but have a problem with it so, I came to a conlusion that I need to get help with an experienced vb programmer and BAAANGGGGG!!!!... I  came to andreavb!!!

when i was a beginner which i feel just like searching for nothing and i feel no one can help me, the only thing that put into my mind is to rent a pc to get access in the internet..  since internet is the best way of getting information i used the search engine and type phrase related in vb then several results  were listed.. so i feel very much happy...and  tried to visit and follow all the links enumerated and didn't expect that i was in andreavb.com site..

it is impressive.. i learned more techniques..  now i was often visit this site... more thanks..
