Is there a simple way to resolve a user typed url  in a simliar fashion to IE  e.g www.xyx.com >> http://www.xyz.com?

i dont think that it is needed at all....
because http:\ www.google.com and www.google.com is one another the same right....
moreover google.com yahh.com also downloads the expected correct pages....

can you tell where this kind of thing is needed......

i suppose you could make use of string manipulation to get rid of missing 'http:\\'
