If the network admin. forces your XP machine with a specific screen saver and a specific desktop that are disabled to be changed, what could be the work around to this restriction without the need to reboot/relogin? I tried some registry modifications but each time I reboot/relogin the changes are superceded by the network login script/profile.

If you find out how to do this you had better let Microsoft know - They will probably give you a job testing Server OS Security.
