 icon User Information API

I am new to API programming. I got the Username using the GetUserName API. I need to find the Groups the User is in. Can someone guide me on it.  I think the GetUserObjectSecurity will get the details. tried microsoft knowledge vase but being new to VB could not figure how it is applied.
Being new Kindly bear with me I will need some samples to get going.
