Re: Customizing Andrea VB
Hi,
1) Firstly, I'd like to suggest for another forum: A forum for Games and Physics stuff... (it might seem a bit too advanced though, but these Game Engines have made it sooo easy...) And I guess once ppl get to know its so easy to b writing games (wid da engines ofcourse) many of them would start considering writing their own lil games..
2) Members should be able to customize there forum page... Then, for instance, if i'm only interested in 'VB General', 'Internet applications', and 'API' boards, then MY Forums link should open a page containing the last 5 (or whateva) threads of these boards only... Options to set colors, layout and other stuff would b really cool ....
Microsoft has spent lotsa time and money for the eye candy they made, that comes in all software after Windows XP.. I guess u can get some rounded windows & buttons for a new and trendy look....
3) Most of the ppl here don't care to put their posts in the proper forum. The result is that "VB general" posts get the most views. while other forums r just ignored... I know some one who has made a software that could automatically sort messages according to there content, and put them in proper place (AI i guess..) That way, ppl who're looking for certain problems can find the relevant posts easier (some1 might say "search option" is there but then thats the whole point of having separate boards!) and ppl who answer these posts can know where to look for unanswred questions....
4) A system can be introduced that tells whether a particular thread has been successfully answered or not. I mean for instance when my question is answered to my satisfaction, i can logon and change the status of the thread to "Answered"
In the end:
5)Y not let the Guests post their questions widout registering? ( u may add some sorta thing to stop spam messages...) Because usually, ppl just become a member, to ask ONE question, or solve ONE problem, and then they dissapear... Thats just a waste of resources, AND a useless inconvenience for the guests as well...
quote: but since I'm not a good PHP developer, please give me some time.
The bad news is, that i might be good at pushing u for upgrades, but i'm sorry i can't help... I don't even know if php and pearl r the same thing or not
quote: I've also opened a PHP site at http://php.andreavb.com to support php and MySQL developement
I'm sure some one in that forum will be of some help...
Anyways, I'd welcome other users to contribute their suggestions, and I wish good luck to ADMIN while he implements this stuff ( and I enjoy my vacations )
Bye

Re: Customizing Andrea VB
a "goto new post" item would be useful... then next in line a "all new items not marked as read automatically in the time it takes to read/test/post a reply"

Re: Customizing Andrea VB
Hi,
1) What about a "see all messages with replies to my post". This does not always fit into the "Active" category, nor the "Unanswered Posts", so it's kinda difficult to find things that people have responded too.
E.G. I saw a query, posted a response, this was then clarified with further info, then someone else fixed it, but I missed it as I didn't check the "Active" forum in time.
2) What about including further info on the email'd response notification... maybe the text of the response with a link to the article?
3) With the introduction of the new "Solved" thingy, what about "Unsolved Topics" search criteria?
Just a thought.
K
