icon Awards and Incentives

Hi guys.

Last week, i chatted with andreavb (Admin site). I suggest if we could have awards and other incentives to the members. What do you think guys?

Hi TJ,
IMHO this goes against the spirit of the site. Advice here is given freely. Who would pay for the awards? I feel that members who only contribute for awards are missing the point.
I would also point out that arguments may arise if person (a) submits a solution and gets an award, and person (b) submits a "better" solution... who gets the award? who judges? to be fair, shouldn't it be by vote? when do the awards get judged? what about a specific solution to a narrow problem may not be understood by the majority of the forum?
Thoughts?
Kieron

Hi all,
I'm with Kieron on this.
Help and advice is given freely in the long-standing spirit of brotherhood that exists between programmers throughout the world - whether they are professionals of long standing or beginners stumbling over their first line of code. No rewards are sought, and in fairness to those that administer this site, nor should they be, for at the end of the day they would be the ones "Judging" the "Advice", for - as Kieron indicates - whilst those asking for advice may be able to say that one piece of advice worked for them, who's to say that it was the "BEST" advice. And anyway, what is "BEST" ? ? There is always more than one way to resolve most coding conundrums.
The only incentive that I need is to know that I have been able to help just a little bit.

There's probably between 5-10 ways to solve any problem of sorts... there's not really a better way (of course depending on the situation), many ways work, some are quicker in one situation, but not in another.

Although I've never viewed programming as a "competition" either.

Hi Kieron.

I understand what you mean. You have an idea. Awards and incentives really dont go with paying money. The moderator including the admin are the judges. They will be voting every end of the month or quarter maybe. This will encourage the new members to answers the question and not making question. I know we are all here to help with free of charge. There are many ways on how to pay the winners.
