IMHO,
I'm not bothered about pirated software when it is either platform or development software. I think it's the commercial software pirating that could harm the industry.. but then again, exactly how much money are these companies "losing"? How can they measure? If your software is useful, people will buy it, unless it's too expensive. If you are writing software that is too expensive for an individual to buy - your target market is the companies. Companies shouldn't use pirated software and there are companies/laws around to enforce it.
I don't care if 2000 people use my software for free, so long as I reach my target market and make sure that they pay for it.
I liken it to overtime - we don't get paid for it, and are expected to do it, and we get a fixed pay over the year.
Just my thoughts
