icon Site slow

Hi friends,

as you have seen the site is becoming slower and slower, I've contacted the hosting company but they seem to be unable to resolve the problem or give some hint on what is causing the problem...maybe I should move the site to a new hosting offering better performance...maybe a dedicated server but it costs a lot! if you have some suggestions please post them here...or if you have experience of sites hosted using much resources and database performance on high amount of data such as forums please let me know!

hope we will resolve this issue soon!

Hey Admin,
Check out the following (from a server-type-idea):
The latency on the hardware. Cheap stuff is slower on a server,
Any virus/spy checkers just installed,
Any backup policies (just changed),
Any hardware (just changed),
Is there a "normal" router down? We all comm over the inet.. maybe someone else is at "fault"?
Tb of data is not really an issue for 1 record at a time. Not sure about php, but can't imagine its PHP's fault.. structure/hware
On the previous point.. does tforum cope with the amount of transactions/records?
I've noticed a general decrease in questions to this site? are they linked? Is it 'cos people cannot get onto the site or because lack of links to it?

Just theory
Kieron

Well, it's possible that you could create an "andreavb archives" site that isn't postable for anyone, and just contains any posts that were made say over a year ago (although keeping existing post counts and all would be nice -- since it'd drastically effect how many posts someone has to lose credit for the old ones).

That way this site would only have a fraction of the posts compared to the other.

HOWEVER, I have noticed that when this one is slow, so is the PHP site.  So I'd think that it's not a DB size problem so much as a hardware/router related thing.

And as a "strange" coincidence, this site being slow seems to somewhat correspond to my webhosting companies DOS and related attacks causing slowness on their servers -- so it might just be a general problem for your company at the given time, and nothing you can really do.

I also noticed the lack of visits, since when the site has become slow. I hope Andrea can succeed to solve it.
And, folks: I am thinking to some (little) financial help from the moderators, to support him. What do you think about?

first of all thanks to you all for your great support! then do you find the site faster now? I've added some php tricks to speed up database access...my hosting company told me that the site and database engine is working properly, I don't know if they've acted in some way to resolve the problem but it seems that the speed of the pages has increased to a reasonable loading time...
