Restricted access to admin?
My friend has just asked me to repair his PC... He uses Win XP, and wehn I try to access REGEDIT, i'm told that my Administrator has disabled access to it... This is a STANDALONE pc, and NOT on a network, and I logon using the ADMINISTRATOR account... I tried changing settings from the Control panel, but I couldn;t find any settings in the 'USERS and PASSWORDS' control box....
I'm also denied access to the TASK MANAGER, with the same excuse! I scanned the PC for viri with latest definitions from SYMANTEC, and tho all infected files were deleted/cleaned, I'm still unable to get access to these 2 important things... Could some1 bail me out

Re: Restricted access to admin?
Hello. Restricting access to pc's owner and grant itself full Administrator's privileges, is a typical feature of any rootkit. So I suggest you to scan your system with a good antispyware - I trust in AVG Antispyware, and I use it tigether with SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware - and update your anti-viral definitions.
I also suggest you a complete administrative tools suite: Sysinternals Suite is a set of monitoring tools that can help you to locate what changes have been made on your system. It's a good suite, so good thet Microsoft has acquired their producer Sysinternals, so now the whole set has been named Windows Sysinternals Utilities. You can free download the whole set at this link.
Hope it helps.

Re: Restricted access to admin?
Thanks!
I got too frustrated with the system, and burned the whole thing up (Formatted it)... Anyways, it looks really neat now!!
I rechecked the only partition I didn't format for any viri / spy ware etc. and it seems to be clean..
Anywayz, thanx.. I'm just d/loading the sysinternals software...
